The Library and Commons are the heart of the campus, with academic student support in tutoring, writing, supplemental instruction and STEM support. Students make over 300,000 visits to the Library each year to enhance classroom learning, using over 60,000 print volumes, access to millions of journal articles and to make use of tutoring and group study learning spaces. The Commons is open over 125 hours per week, often until 3 am each morning and is home to the Galveston Bay Information Center and The Studio, a modern video and media production facility. Over 100 student employees provide reference, writing, research and tutoring assistance. The Library is also home to the Teaching Commons, a faculty academic support service and resource. For late night studying the Library also houses the Java the Hut coffee bar.
