      1. Frederick Madison Smith Library

        Frederick Madison Smith (a son of Joseph Smith III) was the Class of 1898: in June of that year, he was presented the very first Graceland diploma, as the only graduate in the first graduating class of Graceland College. In his speech at its 50-year anniversary celebration, Smith expressed his hope that one day, there would be a designated library building...and that Graceland would evolve into a university.
