    1. Maverick Center

The Maverick Center, formerly Saunders Field House, recently completed a major transformation. The expansion and renovation project consisted of the construction of approximately 200,000 square feet and the renovation of nearly 125,000 square feet. Its primary uses are classroom instruction, athletics, recreation and community activities. The renovated and expanded facility has provides 14 new classrooms and houses the  Kinesiology Department, including faculty for kinesiology, athletic training, and emergency medical technician programs. The new complex also houses the high-tech Monfort Family Human Performance Lab and Western Colorado's only 50-meter indoor swimming pool. Originally built in 1968, the Maverick Center provides facilities for a variety of physical education and recreation activities. Physical education and practice athletic fields are located immediately west of the field house and the Elliott Tennis Complex sitting to the north, is named for longtime supporters and trustee Lena and Carter Elliott. In 2007, a soccer and lacrosse stadium was added to the east of the Field House. Walker Field, constructed in 2007, is home to Maverick Soccer and Lacrosse and was named in honor of Walter Walker and his son Preston, a couple of Colorado Mesa University's earliest supporters. The Walkers were instrumental in bringing a college to Grand Junction in the 1920s. Inside The Maverick Center you'll find Brownson Arena, where the Maverick volleyball and basketball teams play.
