This 56,000 square-foot facility includes the next generation of "smart" classroom technology, universal Wi-Fi, Jazzman's Café coffee bar, and an outdoor pavilion with breathtaking views of the Grand Valley. Dominguez Hall opened its doors with the start of the fall 2008 semester. With its cutting-edge lecture halls, computer labs, and classrooms the Center for Teacher Education and the Business Department found a new home.
Components that make Dominguez Hall the most energy efficient building in Western Colorado
- Ground source heat exchange system
- High-efficiency ground source heat pumps in the ceiling of each floor
- Non-hydro chlorofluorocarbon refrigerants that are not ozone-depleting.
- Highly efficient computerized variable speed fans and pumps with self-variable speed depending on the building’s need for ventilation
- Air-to-air energy recovery units are installed that transfer heat between indoor and outdoor air
- Highly reflective white roof
- Waterless urinals and dual flush toilets (50% less water use than a typical building of this size)
- R-30 roof and R-19 exterior walls
- Window glass has a u-value of 0.44, which reduces heat transfer through the glass
- Motion and sound detectors that turn lights on and off
CO2 sensors that adjust air movement in response to building occupancy
- High-efficiency lighting and daylight sensors that adjust lighting according to the amount of light coming in from outside
- Water efficient landscaping that thrives in our high desert climate.
