The American Beech (Fagus grandifolia) is a species of beech native to eastern North America. It is a deciduous tree growing to 20–35m tall during its lifetime. The tree is monoecious, with flowers of both sexes on the same tree. The fruit is a small, sharply-angled nut which serves as a source of food for numerous animals. The American Beech is an important tree in forestry because of its very hard wood.
