"Sideways. Ever faithful and true. Companion of student body of Ga Tech." March 1, 1945 - August 14, 1947
In 1945, someone cruelly threw a terrier puppy from a car just off campus. Georgia Tech students nursed her back to health, but she walked at an off-kilter angle from the accident, earning her the name Sideways. For years Sideways wandered in and out of classrooms, marched with GT's ROTC, and even led the football team onto the field. She was a favorite of the students, and often slept in a different dorm room each night, being fed through the generosity of the student body and Brittain Dining Hall. Today the marble grave with a black and white photo of Sideways is a monument to this ever-faithful companion. Originally positioned straight, the headstone was rotated 90 degrees clockwise so that Sideways may be in death as she was in life. During finals, students leave pennies and other objects on Sideways' grave for good luck. Pay your respects, and Sideways will send a little good luck your way
