Four-Wing Saltbush (Atriplex canescens)
Native to the Great Plains and Intermountain West, Four-Wing Saltbush is so named because of the distinctively-shaped fruits it produces. An "evergrey" shrub, it has the ability to grow in dry, salty soils. Four-Wing Saltbush is not particularly ornamental but its tough constitution makes it preferable in areas with circumstances that would kill most other plants. It is a favorite forage plant for both domesticated animals and wildlife.
