Big Sagebrush (Artemisia tridentata)
Probably the defining shrub of the Great Basin, this native "ever-grey" has foliage with three lobes on the leaf tips and inconspicuous flowers in late summer. It may become much larger than the dimensions listed above when found on deep soils with good water availability. The distinctive odor of sagebrush after a summer rain shower is well-known to citizens of the West. It is the state flower of Nevada.
