The building was originally called Willow Residences, but in November 2019 the achievements of Deidre Dumas Labat and Reynold T. Décou were commemorated with the renaming of the Willow Residences community to the Décou-Labat Residences. Deidre Dumas Labat and Reynold T. Décou made history in 1966 and 1967 as the first African American undergraduates to earn degrees from Newcomb College and Tulane, respectively.
Décou-Labat Residences, affectionately called DéLa by the students, houses about 300 upperclassmen in 4 buildings. Décou-Labat's design has garnered awards from the national design community.
The three buildings facing Janet Yulman Way are similar in design. Each building offers suite style living consisting of either two double rooms, two single rooms, or one singe room and one double room sharing a bathroom. The 4th building, known as the Townhouses, features 2-story living for residents. There is a PJ's Coffee & Tea Co. located on the ground floor at the corner of Willow and Janey Yulman Way.
The Décou-Labat desk operates 24/7, providing assistance with key/access issues, security matters, and general inquiries. Residents can contact the Décou-Labat front desk at 504-862-3949 for support.
