        1. Tilton Memorial Hall

Tilton Memorial Hall is home to the AMISTAD Research Center, Economics Department, the Murphy Institute, and the Center for Ethics

Constructed in 1902, then enlarged in 1907, Tilton Memorial Hall is named for Frederick W. Tilton, prominent importer of railroad iron. The original Howard-Tilton Memorial Library, the building merged three existing smaller collections. The building was later used for the School of Law. Tilton Memorial was designed by architects Andry and Bendernagel in the neo-Romanesque style with intricate stone carving and decoration.

Tilton is also home to two Tiffany windows. The Art & Literature windows were purchased by the Tilton family at the time that the building was erected in honor of the late Tilton. One of the windows represents Pictorial and Sculptural Art, the other the Graphic Arts. Although now closed, the Stack areas still have glass floors that used to transmit light from skylights to below.
