Organization: Gunung Palung Orangutan Conservation Program
Cultivating local awareness and capacity to protect the endangered orangutan and its habitat in southwestern Borneo. Researching the status of orangutan health in the region while conducting investigations of illegal orangutan trade, expanding conservation education and sustainable livelihood learning, and conducting media outreach initiatives to raise conservation awareness in the region. Helping to protect forest habitat through initiatives that include village forest protection, influencing government on land use planning and promoting enforcement of conservation protection laws. This is the first year this project has received funding from the DWCF.
