Pantanal Tapir Program
Organization: Instituto de Pesquisas Ecologicas
Supporting a long-term conservation program on tapirs in the Atlantic Forests of Brazil, including research, education and habitat restoration efforts. A nation-wide Lowland Tapir Conservation Initiative was launched aimed at establishing tapir programs in other biomes, including the Pantanal, Amazon and Cerrado. The goal is to assess the status and viability of tapirs in the region, providing the scientific basis for tapir action planning to catalyze education, training, and tourism initiatives.
