organization: Save the ElephantsInvestigating the concept that honeybees might be used as a natural deterrent for crop-raiding elephants. The project involves in-depth behavioral and communication work with the individually identified elephants in Samburu National Reserve in northern Kenya, which has so far revealed that elephants run from the playback of disturbed bee sounds. Additionally, the project works closely with rural farmers to design appropriate honeybee deterrents that not only might reduce damaging crop raids but also provide income through the sale of honey and bee products.
