Organization: Save the ElephantsInvestigating the concept that honeybees might be used as a natural deterrent for crop-raiding elephants. Involving in-depth behavioral and communication work with individually-identified elephants in Samburu National Reserve in northern Kenya, which has so far revealed that elephants run from the playback of disturbed bee sounds. Working closely with rural farmers to design appropriate honeybee deterrents that may not only reduce damaging crop raids but also provide income through the sale of honey and bee products. The DWCF has been funding this project since 2007.
