Examining the habitats, movements, demographics, genetics and conservation of a fragmented and declining black bear population in south-central Florida. The population represents a key link in a statewide conservation system.  Successful conservation programming and land planning for the wide-ranging black bear will benefit other imperiled, endemic, or otherwise unique species and their ecosystems, including the Florida panther.
