This pyramidal tree with star-shaped leaves is native to the Southeastern United States. It prefers slightly acidic soil so is less commonly planted in Utah. Well-grown specimens have glossy green foliage, good fall color but spiky, ball-shaped fruits that can be a nuisance to clean up.
