      1. Purple Chokecherry (Prunus virginiana 'Canada Red,' 'Schubert')

Latin Name - Prunus virginiana ‘Canada Red,’ ‘Schubert’
        Height - 15-25 feet
        Spread - 10-20 feet
        Growth Rate - Fast
        USDA Zone - 2
        Drought Tolerance - Moderate

The distinguishing feature of purple chokecherry is its purple-red foliage. New leaves emerge green, then change color as they mature. Small, white flowers in hanging clusters 3-5 inches long are produced in the spring. Plants have a natural tendency to sucker and require frequent attention when maintained as a single trunk tree. Purple chokecherry is not a low-maintenance tree but possesses very good cold tolerance.
