Goldenrain tree is one of the few trees that bloom in summer. Bright yellow flowers in July lead to papery "Japanese lantern" seed pods that give the plant an oriental look. It has performed extremely well in Utah with plants thriving in many parts of the state. Seeds of this tree germinate readily, leading to seedlings that pop up in shrub and flower beds. Fall color is golden yellow. Nursery trees initially look gaunt and thin, but fill out within a few years after planting.
