      1. Cottonwood (Populus 'Siouxland')

        Latin Name - Populus 'Siouxland'
        Height - 65-75 feet
        Spread - 25-35 feet
        Growth Rate - Fast
        USDA Zone - 2-9
        Drought Tolerance - Low

Hybrid poplars, also known as cottonless cottonwoods, are among the fastest growing of all trees for temperate climates. Their quick growth, however, comes at the cost of weak wood. They are useful for providing quick shade in pastures, fields, and low-traffic areas. A good shelterbelt tree, Hybrid poplars may be used in landscapes as temporary trees if removed as soon as more desirable, but slower growing trees, attain some size. Don't wait too long--buyer's remorse (and removal costs) for homeowners who wanted fast-growing cottonwoods years ago is considerable.
