As the center of the campus, Royce Hall is a historic UCLA landmark but also a monument to culture and the arts. Royce Hall was built in 1929 and named after renowned American philosopher Josiah Royce. World-famous performers and speakers have graced its stage, from Eleanor Roosevelt, John F. Kennedy, the American Ballet Theater, Louis Armstrong, Frank Sinatra, and many more. Though it underwent a seismic renovation in 1998, the structure has remained more or less the same since the beginning, a testament to UCLA's academic excellence and commitment to the arts.
