    1. Château Marmont Hotel

The iconic 5-star Chateau Marmont Hotel was built in 1929. With architecture inspired by a royal castle in France's Loire Valley, the hotel was originally built as an apartment complex for the American elite. The high rent and depression-era instability resulted in its conversion to a hotel.

Designed as the first earthquake-proof building in Los Angeles, the hotel withstood damage from several major earthquakes in 1933, 1953, 1971, 1987, and 1994. The hotel is a celebrity favorite and has housed such names as Billy Wilder, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Tim Burton, Robert de Niro, and more. In 1976, Chateau Marmont was named a Los Angeles Historical-Cultural Landmark.
