Part of the California Institute Of Technology campus in Pasadena, The Linde + Robinson Lab is home of the Ronald and Maxine Linde Center for Global Environmental Science. The building's centerpiece is a solar telescope that was built for Caltech cofounder and solar astronomer George Ellery Hale. The main part of the instrument is a contraption called a coelostat, which sits under a large white dome on the roof of the building.
The Linde + Robinson Lab was the first remodel of an existing historical laboratory to be awarded LEED Platinum certification and is one of the lowest-energy research labs in the United States.
An extensive renovation transformed the building in 2011, and it was renamed in honor of a contribution by vice chair of the Board of Trustees and alumnus Ronald K. Linde and his wife, Maxine.
