Playa Vista is an award-winning 500-acre urban infill mixed-use development in Los Angeles, located where Howard Hughes built the Spruce Goose airplane. ZC has been providing its full suite of sustainability services to the project since 1996. At build-out (ongoing), the community will have 5,800 residential units (nearing completion ), 3 million square feet of commercial space, a mixed-use retail center and numerous supporting elements including an LAUSD K-8 school, two community centers, a public library, an outdoor live performance amphitheater along with several people and dog parks, and a recreated freshwater marsh. To date, nearly all homes are complete, and a few commercial properties reamain to be completed. Playa Vista is the heart of Silicon Beach, and will be home to Youtube, Google, Yahoo and The Honest Company, among others. ZC developed the precedent-setting Playa Vista Phase 1 Residential Sustainable Guidelines in 1998 and oversaw their implementation. Guidelines for Phase 2 are being drafted.
