    1. Pro Music Therapy: Promoting Maternal & Child Health

      Katherine Lantigua, MM '18

The Pro Music Therapy private practice serves women who are pregnant or postpartum to promote child development and maternal mental health. If you are seeking support to improve relaxation, decrease anxiety, manage pain, elevate or regulate mood, or enhance mother-infant bonding, music therapy can help.
Music therapy is recognized as an evidence-based treatment modality for women who are pregnant and postpartum. According to the American Music Therapy Association, music therapy is the evidence-based use of music interventions to accomplish individualized goals within a therapeutic relationship by a credentialed professional who has completed an approved program. The use of music therapy to promote maternal mental and emotional health is supported by research published in multiple peer-reviewed journals, including the American Journal of Maternal/Child Nursing, Arts in Psychotherapy, Journal of Pediatric Nursing, and Nordic Journal of Music Therapy.

The music therapy treatment process includes referral, assessment, establishment of goals and objectives, treatment plan development, ongoing documentation, evaluation, and discharge. At the initial assessment, the music therapist works with you to establish goals and develop a treatment plan. Each music therapy session will consist of structured therapeutic music experiences designed to target your objectives and accomplish these individualized goals.
