Wilson House Unique among all of the masters residences on the Rice campus, the Wiess College magister house is named for a former Rice professor and longtime resident associate of the college, Bill Wilson. Each of Rice’s 11 residential colleges is led by a college magister who lives in on-campus residences adjacent to the colleges and whose role is to serve as advisers to the students own elected leadership. College magisters are usually a married couple (at least one of whom must be a tenured faculty member), although single faculty members occasionally serve as a magister. Magisters and their families are recruited, interviewed and nominated by the students of each respective college and typically serve five-year terms.
