Martel College
At Rice, a residential college functions as an extended family. Undergraduates are randomly assigned to one of 11 residential colleges so that each college represents a cross-section of the university’s diversity.
Martel is the ninth of Rice’s 11 residential colleges; it opened in fall 2002.

Named for: Speros and Marian Martel. Speros Martel was an immigrant from Athens, Greece, and a self-educated restaurateur and investor.
