The John and Anne Grove
On a prominent architectural axis of the campus, leading from College Way to the base of Sid Richardson College, lies a particularly beautiful grove of campus trees. It was beneath their branches that two former Rice students, Anne D'Olier '64 and John Mullen '63, first met and often strolled, hand-in-hand, during the earlier days of their courtship. Years later, now a married couple, the Mullens agreed to help fund the restoration of the grove--on the rather unusual condition that it not bear their family name--so as to afford future generations of "Johns and Annes" a place to meet and make memories of their own.
