The letters that comprise Think are revealed, or recede into abstraction, with the changing perspective of the viewer. The grand stairwell at the BioScience Research Center, where the large-scale painting was specifically commissioned to hang, offers several different vantage points. As a result, Frankfort’s layer upon layer of thick acrylic paint, in subtly varied colors, is effectively visually accessible. While working in residence on campus, the artist created over twenty smaller studies to help inform her chosen color palette and overall composition. As Frankfort’s first project of this scale, she fashioned her own tools and over-sized paintbrushes to accommodate her style of painting. Think illustrates the dynamic and energetic effect that art can have on a space, while simultaneously capturing Frankfort’s ability to push the boundaries of her medium.
