Reclaimed water is the clean water produced from the advanced treatment of wastewater. Using reclaimed water frees up the community’s drinking water supply, lowering the risk of a water shortage during droughts. UNC-Chapel Hill Chilled Water uses reclaimed water as the make up water for the cooling towers at all chiller plants, saving approximately 200 million gallons of potable water per year.
