Capen Annex offers space for The Design Thinking Initiative, as well as for a number of student organizations, including the student newspaper, The Sophian; the college yearbook, The Madeleine; and the Smith Science Fiction and Fantasy Society. The building is adjacent to Capen Garden, which is designed as a series of outdoor garden rooms. The largest of these is bisected by a rustic pergola supporting old varieties of climbing roses. The walk beneath the pergola forms a central axis, passing through dense hedges and linking the main divisions of the garden.
