Cedrus atlantica ‘Pendula glauca’
Here we see a diminutive weeping form of the magnificent blue Atlas cedar, a tall tree native to North Africa. With some luck, this plant may slowly grow to around 15 feet tall and wide. One horticultural writer has suggested that each of these trees, though genetically identical, develops differently depending on how it is staked and trained. Some eventually mature into forms resembling waterfalls.
The plant has the bright silvery-blue foliage characteristic of the larger parent tree, with long shoots that extend its reach and short side shoots bearing clusters of needles. Once established, it is drought resistant and performs well in a sunny location. Regis did lose one specimen after a severe weather event in 2024, and it is hoped that was an isolated occurrence.
