Sweetwater Wetlands is open to the public seven days a week for self-guided tours (see below). Gates to the facility open approximately one hour before sunrise and close approximately one hour after sunset. Tucson Water and Arizona Project WET have partnered to provide a series of self-guided tours at the Sweetwater Wetlands. The new Discovery Program engages visitors in explorations that lead them on a journey along the path that surrounds the settling ponds and recharge basins. Discovery Program Journeys start at the main kiosk. Guests can use a QR code reader app on any smart device to view the Wetlands in a scientific way as they navigate around the 60-acre site. There are Botany, Hydrology, Ornithology, and Wildlife Biology Journeys available. The Hydrology Journey was developed in collaboration with Tucson Water hydrologists Dick Thompson and Margaret Snyder. It illustrates the surface water-groundwater connection and how water is managed in Tucson. For more information, Visit website, call 520-791-4331 or send e-mail.
