    1. Memorial Hill

Look out over this hill on the east side of the First-Year Quad, near a stone statue of poet Robert Frost, and you’ll get a breathtaking view of Memorial Field and the Holyoke Range. You’ll also see the War Memorial, dedicated in 1946 and bearing the names of the Amherst alumni who gave their lives in World Wars I and II. Every winter, students like to sled down Memorial Hill, often on plastic trays from Valentine Dining Hall. And every May, graduating seniors gather here in caps and gowns before processing to the quad for Commencement.
