Some of the water that is collected under the green is transported to the Commons through underground pipes. These pipes keep the water at 55 degrees so that it can be used for air conditioning in the summer and heating in the winter.
Other storage basins under the green collect rainwater and runoff, and then this water is used by the sprinkler system to irrigate the green. This method saves both water and money, as no water is entering into the city sewage system.
