The waste from the sinks of the Dining Hall and the Chat is filtered and the grease is separated out. This grease is stored in a vat located in the mechanical room of the Kuch Center. It is picked up and reprocessed in a facility to be used again.

In the Great Room area of the Kuch Center, there are smart windows that open automatically when the building’s temperature gets above a certain level, and then they close when it drops below that level.

The lights in the Great Room will soon be replaced with LED lights, which are more energy efficient and cost effective.

In the men’s bathroom outside of the Great Room, there are waterless urinals so that no flushing is required. There is a membrane inside that collects the fluid, and these are replaced every year. Also, the toilets are low-flush in which they use less water than a standard toilet.
- The first floor of the Commons is heated by water that runs through looped pipes right under the floor.
