The student center sits at the center of campus, at the hub of activity, and is designed to be both the "living and dining room" of campus life. The Center contains the dining and food services Chartwell operations of the College, which include Rahauser Dining Hall, named in memory of Reverend Frederick A. Rahauser, a pioneer minister of the Reformed Church; Saleeby Dining Room, named in honor of Rose Baddour and Elias A. Saleeby of Salisbury, friends and benefactors of the College; McCorkle's Smoke Stack Grill and "We Proudly Serve" Starbucks kiosk. The Center also houses the College bookstore, post office, game room, student government office, the Office of Student Affairs, Career Services, and the Proctor Health Center.
In front of the Student Center is Stanback Plaza, named in memory of Fred J. Stanback, Sr. of Salisbury, former Catawba trustee and benefactor. The Cannon Student Center was funded with gifts from the Charles A. Cannon Charitable Trust No. One, and a number of other friends, and is named in memory of Charles A. Cannon, founder of Cannon Mills Company and a philanthropist of extraordinary generosity.
In 2008, renovations in the Cannon Student Center were completed. A new addition, off the back west wing of the facility, is home of the post office, the Lerner Wellness Center with an aerobics room, the Hurley Room, the Whitener Room, and a small kitchenette. In tandem with this addition, the dining hall on the lower level of the Student Center was reconfigured to create more intimate, less institutional, dining space. Other renovations included revamping the Student Affairs offices, enclosing and updating Adams Loft (a small, private meeting space), expansion and new cosmetic finishes to the College bookstore, refurbishment of Leonard Lounge (a large common space), and refurbishment of a fast-food dining area.
The dining hall was renovated in 2012 by Chartwells, Catawba's food service provider.
