Ecuador: Tourism and Cultural Sustainability in the Andes and Amazon (ANT 320)
This course includes an anthropological study of the history and evolution of various kinds of tourism, including pilgrimage, in Ecuador. Fieldwork will be conducted among the native peoples in both the highland Andes mountains and in the lowland Amazon Basin’s tropical rainforest. Tourism is approached as a main force for globalizing change, raising issues of sustainability, and indigenous cultural survival. Contact Professor Phyllis Passariello.
