Chicago, with 2.7 million people and 77 distinct neighborhoods, has been the center of economic and cultural activity between the two coasts for the past one hundred years. It is home to the tallest building in the western hemisphere (the Willis Tower, formerly the Sears Tower), 7,300 restaurants, 200 theatres, and 200 arts galleries. Its world-class institutions include the Art Institute of Chicago, the Shedd Aquarium, the Museum of Science and Industry, and many Fortune 500 companies. With ironic Midwestern understatement, it calls itself “The Second City,” though is more appropriately called “The City with Big Shoulders,” “The Windy City,” or “The City that Works.”
