        Cameroon: African Politics/Civil Society

(GOV 441) Cameroon has been called “Africa in Miniature” because it encompasses many of the characteristics of the continent with regard to natural resources, social and cultural issues, economic development, and current political challenges. The major themes of this course will be democracy and development, goals especially important for countries in the Global South that are working toward both simultaneously. The course includes meeting with political officials and members of civil society in both rural and urban settings, as well as exploring the black-sand beaches of Limbe and hiking up Mt. Cameroon.
