London: Urban Politics
(POL 453) In the 21st century, London still lives up to Dr. Samuel Johnson's famous 18th-century dictum: "When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life." In this course, students will study the politics of cities, towns, and their communities, focusing especially closely on the case study of London. The issues facing modern towns and cities, including crime, public education, aging infrastructure, gentrification, racial segregation, immigration, and poverty, will be investigated. Students will also discuss the influence of politicians and citizens on the very cities they live in. Course prerequisite: GOV 120 or permission of instructor. Contact Prof. Chris Paskewich.
