About:
The Georgetown University Art Galleries consist of three separate exhibition spaces all located in the Edmund A. Walsh building on Main Campus. They feature works by acclaimed professional artists, as well as student and faculty artists.
The Maria & Alberto de la Cruz Art Gallery is our flagship space. It opened in August 2018 to present temporary exhibitions of world-class contemporary artists who engage with themes that reinforce GU’s mission and Jesuit philosophy such as social justice, cross-cultural exchange, and global consciousness.
The Lucille M. & Richard F.X. Spagnuolo Art Gallery opened in 2003 and was renovated and reopened in August 2018. The Spagnuolo Gallery encompasses two spaces, one primarily showing outside, professional artists on the left side of the Walsh Building atrium and the smaller Spagnuolo South gallery across the atrium at the entrance to the Department of Art and Art History offices (suite 102) where GU faculty artists are often featured.
The Galleries operate during the academic year exclusively. Each of the three galleries presents one exhibition per semester and the Senior Art Majors Exhibition, which occurs in April and May. Some semesters Spagnuolo and de la Cruz host separate exhibitions, other times a single large show occupies both galleries.
Vision:
The Georgetown University Art Galleries are a forum for art that sparks conversation and encourages social engagement through a contemporary lens. The Galleries ask critical questions that promote cross-disciplinary learning, inspire dialogue, and challenge assumptions through changing exhibitions and programs for a variety of audiences.
