  1. Capital Renewal Projects

    1. Central Heat Plant

In fiscal years 2023-2024, Boise State received $90M in deferred maintenance funds from the State of Idaho. These funds will allow us to complete several top projects on the university’s capital renewal/deferred maintenance list. Projects on this list address deficiencies in our campus facilities and infrastructure that had been deferred until funds were available. View more on our website.

      • Central Plant Replacement and Tunnel Infrastructure Repairs: The Boise State Central Steam Plant Boilers and infrastructure are reaching end of life. These boilers serve 25 buildings around campus through the heating season. Additionally, the underground tunnel system has some structural deterioration that needs repair. This project will replace the central plant equipment with modern boilers and infrastructure as well as repair the structural deterioration of the tunnels. Currently a design study is being preformed to help guide a decision to replacing the steam boilers with new steam boilers (1st generation heating system) , or if the University will install a 4th generation heating system such as a district hot water plant which will increase energy efficiency, reduce carbon emissions, and open the door to connect more of campus to the City of Boise Geothermal system. Impact: This project will replace end of life equipment with new equipment that will serve campus for the next 30-50 years. This project aims to make improvements in energy efficiency, carbon emission reduction, and resiliency of our campus buildings.
