The 410-acre Gremel Wildlife Sanctuary is a mosaic of forests, wetlands and grassland remnants. It has permanent buildings to house students and faculty during summer classes and field research.
Augustana College sold the land to the Illinois Audubon Society in 2016 but retained a 15-acre site, including several buildings, which students and faculty will continue to use.
Proceeds from the sale of the property will fund ongoing operations of Augustana’s environmental field stations, as well as establish the Dr. Bohdan Dziadyk Distinguished Chair in Environmental Science and Conservation.
