3910 Yoakum This building is home to the UST Fine Arts and Drama department. The upper Jones Hall houses the Drama program.
Jones Hall was built as part of world famous architect Philip Johnson’s master plan for the campus in the late 50s and early 60s. It is named after philanthropist Jesse Jones for whom the Jones Hall downtown is also named. Jones Hall has always been the largest auditorium on campus seating 295 and hosting a variety of events (concerts, lectures, plays, fashion shows). Upstairs in Jones was originally the campus art gallery. The world famous Dominique de Menil, of the Menil Museum fame, was the chair of the UST art department.
The art gallery was transformed into Jones Theatre in 1970. Jones Theatre, a black box style theatre seating 96, has been the UST theatre since that time. Contact Information: Fine Arts and Drama Department Claire McDonald Chair, Fine & Performing Arts Phone: 713-525-3520 Email: mcdonald@stthom.edu
