Everything you need to learn about a subject is easily within reach through the ASU Libraries. The largest facility,Hayden Library, houses books and research materials in the humanities and social sciences, including business and education. Also featured at Hayden Library are several special collections, including the Arizona Collection, the Labriola National Indian Data Center, the Arizona Historical Foundation, the Chicano Research Collection and theUniversity Archives.
The ASU library system houses almost five million books, and provides online access to more than 300,000 ebooks and 78,000 ejournals. The Library Channel produces podcasts, videos, and the award-winning Library Minuteseries to inform the ASU community about services and events.
Built in 1966, the Hayden Library is named for Charles Trumbull Hayden, founder of Tempe and the first president of the board of the Arizona Territorial Normal School. The design includes a grand stairway leading below ground to the main entrance and an open-air garden courtyard. Above ground, the ASU landmark called the "beacon of knowledge" is illuminated at night by the interior lights of the library below.
