The Social Sciences Building is connected to one of the most fascinating females in history. The Institute of Human Origins, founded and directed by world renowned physical anthropologist Donald Johanson, houses a cast of Lucy, one of the oldest pre-human skeletal remains, which was discovered in Ethiopia in 1974. Lucy is estimated to be about 3.2 million years old.
Built in 1960, the Social Sciences Building is a mix of classroom, office and research space. The Social Sciences building is also home to the main office of the T. Denny Sanford School of Social and Family Dynamics.
