If you are considering a career in education, you will want to investigate ASU's Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College, which is housed in Farmer and Payne Halls. ASU's roots are in teacher preparation, as the university began as a normal school in 1885.

Today, students prepare for careers in the classroom by mixing lectures with multiple hours in classrooms — observing, interning and student teaching. The college's multicultural preschool allows students to gain practical experience in early childhood development.

The Farmer Building, constructed in 1960, honors Hiram Bradford Farmer, the first principal (1886-1888) and the one-man faculty of the Arizona Territorial Normal School.
