      1. College of Design North

An award-winning expansion to the design buildings opened in 1989, more than doubling the space available for instruction, research and service activities. The south building boasts the Gallery of Design, one of 30 university galleries and museums, and the digital imaging lab which gives students access to computer-controlled laser cutting and large format digital printing.

The north design building is home to the Architecture and Environmental Design Library (1st floor, room 153), which provides access to books, periodicals, reference materials, product catalogs and a special collections area, which includes the Archival Drawings Collection. Research and special project rooms include design studios, graduate student studio workspace, lighting laboratory, materials resource center, solar instrumentation laboratory and a solar roof work area that doubles as a daylight testing area. The north building includes Charlie’s Café, which opens to an outdoor terrace.

One interesting feature is “the bridge,” a meeting and studio review space for students and faculty members, which connects the north and south buildings. The Herberger Institute Research Center and student advising are located in the south building.
