Italian for Little Portion, this chapel’s official name is Our Lady of the Angels the Portiuncula. Built in 1936, it is a replica of the chapel which St. Francis rebuilt and became “home” to his early followers. The original chapel in Assisi, Italy is often called the birthplace of the Franciscan order. The Portiuncula Chapel is open year round from dawn until dusk.
