In the early 1990’s, lawn areas surrounding the Grove House were transformed into water-conserving gardens. Plantings around the Grove House include desert gardens with golden barrel cacti, palo verde trees, and a variety of aloes and other succulents. The Ellsworth Garden on the south side was named for Pitzer President Frank Ellsworth; this area includes the outdoor classroom. The Wildflower Garden has plantings of desert flowers.
